Viewliner II Baggage: The Viewliner® II is Amtrak’s newest addition to its fleet of single-level rolling stock, with planned rollouts of Baggage cars, diners, and Sleeping cars all expected to enter standard service through the next few years. Right now Amtrak is operating 55 Baggage cars in this new style, wearing a special “Phase III heritage” paint scheme that combines the classic red-white-and-blue stripes with Amtrak’s new modern logo and the phrase “Amtrak America”. While the Viewliner and Amfleet® single-level cars are typically designed for use throughout the Eastern United States on long distance trains, the new Viewliner II Baggage cars are also used on Superliner trains, making them extremely versatile and a great addition to a model railroader’s HO scale Amtrak fleet!

Model Features:

  • Designed to operate along with Kato's HO Superliners.
  • Metal weights give prototypical heft and momentum
  • Optional kinematic couplers allow prototypical close coupling while still navigating tight radius curves.
  • Able to be illuminated with Kato's optional 7-504 interior lighting kit.
  • Designed with easily illuminated marker lights with optional light board #958046
  • Free rolling, detailed trucks with rotating bearing caps and shock absorber construction.

DC ANALOG SYSTEMS
DC Analog is a control system standard to most starter sets which allows the user to control the track (and not the locomotive). This means that two or more trains on the same track will move, speed up, slow down and stop at the same time.
DCC DIGTIAL SYSTEMS
DCC Digital stands for ‘Digital Command Control’. DCC Digital systems allow individual locomotives and accessories to be independently controlled from the controller. Other functions, such as lighting and sound (if equipped), can also be independently controlled.

DCC READY (Standard DC)

This means the locomotive, train set or equipment is fitted with a socket that is ready to accept a DCC decoder.  The most common and readily available types of decoders here in the US are: 6 pin, 8 pin, next 18, and 21 pin.  Prior to buying a  decoder for your locomotive, verify which of the previous you will need.  This information is usually found on the manufacturers site or instruction booklet.

The locomotive requires a DCC decoder to be fitted to the socket in order for it to work on a DCC controlled layout. It can however still be used on the conventional DC (analog) layout.

DCC EQUIPPED

This indicates that the locomotive, train set or equipment is fitted with a decoder that has been pre-installed at the factory.

This means that the locomotive is ready to run and operate on a DCC controlled layout and can now be called up by request from a Digital Controller. Additional features, such as lighting and sound (if equipped), can also be independently controlled (only if the locomotive is fitted with these accessories).

Some DCC equipped locomotives can also be run on DC layouts (see note below). Some accessories may continue to work automatically, such as lighting and sound (if equipped), however, the user will not have independent control of these under DC operation. It is important to note that manufacturer's decoders who support sound playback on DC operation will only provide a selection of sounds when the locomotive is detected to be moving or stopping (such as chuffing, coasting and braking sounds).

*Some manufacturers may issue a warning that they do not recommend a DCC fitted locomotive to be operated on a DC (analog) layout, and may void any warranties. Check your locomotive's manual for more information. Not all sound decoders enable sound playback on DC operation, and this information is provided with your decoder manual.
