Finally...Kato HO Amtrak Viewliner Baggage Car!

Viewliner II Baggage: The Viewliner® II is Amtrak’s newest addition to its fleet of single-level rolling stock, with planned rollouts of Baggage cars, diners, and Sleeping cars all expected to enter standard service through the next few years. Right now Amtrak is operating 55 Baggage cars in this new style, wearing a special “Phase III heritage” paint scheme that combines the classic red-white-and-blue stripes with Amtrak’s new modern logo and the phrase “Amtrak America”. While the Viewliner and Amfleet® single-level cars are typically designed for use throughout the Eastern United States on long distance trains, the new Viewliner II Baggage cars are also used on Superliner trains, making them extremely versatile and a great addition to a model railroader’s HO scale Amtrak fleet!

With arguably the absolute best quality plastic in the business, Kato has once again put out an outstanding model.  An absolute must have for you modern Amtrak fleet.  When you open the box, you will notice that there is some assembly required.  Although it can be somewhat tedious, you must install the grab irons and foot stirrups.  As you can see on our model, everything is installed and we even added Kadee No. 5 couplers.  All in all, it about about 15 minutes or less to get it ready for the layout.  Did I mention the flawless paint that correctly resembles stainless steel.

Perfect simulated rubber vestibule diaphragm and molding.  Notice how nice and proportionate the plastic grab irons and stirrups are.

A view from a different angle.

Very well detailed truck detail and seemingly perfectly balanced rotating roller bearing caps.  No wobbly bearing caps here!

Excellent molded door detail with legible labeling.  Notice how detailed the plastic grab irons are.

No tooling or die marks with impeccable roof ribbing and vent detail.  Vents appear to be a separately applied (not confirmed).

Truck construction details.  Pickups on all axles ensure no flickering when you add the optional marker light led.  You will also notice the (sold separately) Kadee coupler box adapter with the installed No. 5 coupler.

Here's an extreme closeup of the Amtrak Travelmark logo located on either side of the car.
